Welcome

Human First Therapy

Many of the wounds we carry come from other people labelling us and telling us who we are and what is best for us.

At Human First Therapy, we do things differently.

We ask questions — not to "fix" you, but to help you find your own way. Because answers handed down rarely stick.

We draw from many approaches, share from our own journeys when it's useful, and work with you to create strategies that actually fit your life.

We get creative. And we do it as people with our own lives, stories and struggles. Not as at-a-distance professionals who know best.

This is a space that calls out the harm of traditional, top-down therapy.

We believe healing happens only in the context of real human connection — not by applying techniques to symptoms from a distance.

Here, the therapist shows up as a person.
Direct. Present. Building a relationship that can ripple outward, showing what's possible in the rest of your life.

We are wounded in human relationships.
We heal in human relationships.
Welcome to Human First Therapy.

Our Approach

A Humanistic Approach to Therapy

Humanist Therapy is a more direct and practical form of Psychotherapy. Our Therapists have all done and continue to do the work on ourselves so that we meet you as fellow humans rather than as an at-a-distance professional who is prescribing you treatment and approaches from a place of pretended knowing.

Our therapists have learned a variety of different approaches along with going through University programs that speak to the traditional modes of Psychotherapy practiced in North America.

We are experts in not being and acting like experts. Much of Psychotherapy in North America is based on people who claim to have expertise applying "Approaches" to clients or patients and hoping for results. When those results don't happen, these experts will tell you that you just weren't treatment ready. The shame falls onto you.

You are more than the things that are blocking you. The hardest part in any process of recovery and healing is the first step of reaching out. This takes courage. I work with people who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or lost in the noise of life. Together, we make sense of it. We build clarity, strategies, and space for change.

I work with those that ache for more—more truth, more depth, more connection. I work with the tired, the misunderstood, the broken-open souls who know they are more than their pain, but just don't know how to find their way back to themselves. If you're struggling with anxiety, with grief, with trauma, with unspoken longing—if you're weary from the weight of your own thoughts and emotions—I will walk with you. Because I am also a pilgrim on this journey.

Life's challenges—whether anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, or navigating difficult relationships—can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and others. Perhaps you're exhausted from constantly putting others' needs first, frustrated by repeating the same patterns, or longing for a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment. You may wonder, "Shouldn't life feel better than this?" I offer a personalized, compassionate approach to help you gain clarity, build confidence, and navigate life's challenges. I am part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Control vs agency

Here’s a humanist way to hold that distinction: • Control is rooted in fear. It’s the ego’s attempt to manage outcomes, people, and feelings so nothing unexpected can hurt us. Control narrows life — it limits spontaneity, play, and presence. • Agency is rooted in freedom. It’s the felt sense that I can choose how I respond. Agency doesn’t […]

Why labelling should only be done by the individual and only as temporary boxes

From a humanist perspective, labelling is only safe and useful when it’s chosen by the individual — and even then, it should be held lightly, as a temporary container rather than a fixed identity. • Ownership of meaning: When someone names their own experience, the label becomes empowering (“I feel anxious,” “I’m grieving”). When imposed from outside, […]

Everyone is projecting almost all the time

Projection is one of those invisible human habits — we all do it, all the time — and it quietly shapes our relationships, self-image, and daily interactions. Some everyday ways it shows up: • Judgments of others: The traits we can’t accept in ourselves (neediness, laziness, anger) suddenly become crystal clear in the people around […]
