Welcome

Human First Therapy

Many of the wounds we carry come from other people labelling us and telling us who we are and what is best for us. Even the most well-intentioned people will often do this.

At Human First Therapy, we do things differently.

We ask questions — not to "fix" you, but to help you find your own way.

We draw from many approaches, share from our own journeys when it's useful, and work with you to create strategies that fit your life.

We get creative. And we do it as people with our own lives, stories and struggles. Not as an at-a-distance professional who assumes they know best.

This is a space that calls out the harm of traditional, top-down therapy.

We are wounded in human relationships.

We heal in human relationships.

Welcome to Human First Therapy.

Our Approach

A Humanistic Approach to Therapy

Humanist Therapy is a more direct and practical form of Psychotherapy. Our Therapists are constantly growing and working on ourselves so that we meet you as fellow humans rather than as an at-a-distance professional who is prescribing you treatment and approaches as if they know you.

What this means is that we ask you questions from a place of curiosity and help you guide yourself to deeper self-awareness and greater day-to-day ease.

What a typical session looks like

We are integrative, meaning we draw on the things that work from all major therapy approaches. We get creative in session. We use Socratic Dialogue to ask you questions that lead you to discover your own answers to what you are struggling with. We will also bring in somatic (body) work, leaning into exercises that give you a chance to express the blocked emotion that is living inside of you, like anger, hurt and sadness.

Yes, this is our job, but we show up because we come to believe in you and your story. We share parts of our stories and journeys so you can see, both that you are not alone and to get a sense of things we have done as we continue to grow beside you.

The path to happiness isn’t positive thinking, it's about exploring the things that we would otherwise avoid or try to forget.

I work with those that ache for more—more truth, more depth, more connection. I work with the tired, the misunderstood, the broken-open souls who know they are more than their pain, but just don't know how to find their way back to themselves. If you're struggling with anxiety, with grief, with trauma, with unspoken longing—if you're weary from the weight of your own thoughts and emotions—I will walk with you. Because I am also a pilgrim on this journey.

You may wonder, "Shouldn't life feel better than this?" I offer a personalized, compassionate approach to help you gain clarity, build confidence, and navigate life's challenges. Control vs agency

Here’s a humanist way to hold that distinction: • Control is rooted in fear. It’s the ego’s attempt to manage outcomes, people, and feelings so nothing unexpected can hurt us. Control narrows life — it limits spontaneity, play, and presence. • Agency is rooted in freedom. It’s the felt sense that I can choose how I respond. Agency doesn’t […]

What are the most common trauma beliefs

• I am not enough / not good enough → I am lacking, incomplete. • I am too much → My real self is overwhelming, unsafe for others. • I am unloveable → No matter what I do, I cannot be accepted. • I am not doing enough → My worth is conditional, tied to constant effort. In summary, […]
